What We Believe

THE ONE TRUE GOD

God has revealed Himself as the Creator of all things and the Redeemer of all humanity. He is manifested as the Triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are three unique persons, yet one.

Genesis 1:26, Isaiah 43:11, Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 2:10

INSPIRATION OF SCRIPTURE

The Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God. In them we find truth and the final authority for all Christian faith and practice.

2 Timothy 3:15-17

DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST

The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who shares in the deity of God. He is also truly man who was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for sin and arose from the dead, ascended into Heaven and is now at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest and advocate.

Matthew 1:23, John 1:1-14, Philippians 2:6-9, Hebrews 10:11-14

ORIGINAL SIN & FALL OF MAN

Humans were created in the image of God but fell into sin and were separated from God. Only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ and by His resurrection can humanity have grounds for justification and salvation. This salvation and spiritual life are obtained by regeneration through the work of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 3:23-26

SALVATION BY FAITH

Salvation and redemption (a free gift of grace from God) can only be obtained by exercising faith in the finished redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:24

ATONEMENT OF SIN

We have received the atonement of sin through the shedding of Christ's blood at Calvary and obtained righteousness through our faith in his death, burial and resurrection.

Isaiah 43:11, Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 2:10, Acts 5:3

A NEW CREATION IN CHRIST

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus. We are partakers of His divine nature.

2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:10

THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The ministry and baptism of the Holy Spirit are to glorify Jesus Christ and to indwell, guide and empower believers for life and service. This baptism brings the gifts, or enablement, of the Holy Spirit and their uses to the forefront of the ministry of the body of Christ. This experience is distinct from, and subsequent to, the experience of the new birth and is evidenced by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance. The sign of speaking in tongues is available to all believers.

Acts 2:1-4, Luke 3:16, 1 Corinthians 12:8-10

PRAYER

Prayer is communion with God. Prayer can be expressed by an individual believer or by a group of believers. Group prayer is also known as unity prayer or corporate prayer. Believers can pray effectively with the cooperation of the Holy Spirit, who was sent to be our helper. Scripture teaches us to pray to the Father in the Name of Jesus.

John 15:7, Ephesians 6:18, John 14:13-14, 1 John 5:14-15

DIVINE HEALING & PROVISION

The finished work of Jesus Christ provided not only salvation, but also healing and provision for all believers. We believe that the 'spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free' from the curse of sin, sickness, poverty and death.

Isaiah 53:4-5, Matthew 8:16-17, Romans 8:2, John 10:10

THE BODY OF THE CHURCH

The true Church is the composition of all those who have been born again. Through the new birth, believers are united as the Body of Christ. Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the Church.

Ephesians 1:22-23

FIVE-FOLD MINISTRY GIFTS

We believe in the five-fold ministry gifts given to the church at the ascension of Jesus Christ and that these gifts continue to be necessary and operational today: the ministries of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. We believe that women can be called to these roles and we endorse their active participation in every facet of ministry and service.

Ephesians 4:11, 1 Corinthians 12:28

LORD'S SUPPER (COMMUNION)

The Lord's Supper, or Communion, is a symbolic expression of our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ as well as a memorial of his suffering, death and prophecy of His second coming.

1 Corinthians 11:23-31

WATER BAPTISM

All who believe in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and have been born again are commanded to be immersed in water as a declaration that they identify with the death of Christ and have been raised with Him in newness of life.

Matthew 3:13, Acts 8:35-37

MARRIAGE

As a matter of belief, doctrine and religious practice, FaithCityChurch reserves the term 'marriage' for the covenant relationship between one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. The covenant of marriage represents the union between Christ and His Church.

Genesis 2:18-24, Matthew 19:5-6, Mark 10:8, Ephesians 5:22-23, Colossians 3:18-19, 1 Peter 3:1-7

SEXUAL PURITY

The Bible instructs believers to live a lifestyle of sexual purity and to not engage in sexual relations outside of the confines of marriage. Further, fidelity within marriage reminds us that the marriage relationship is a spiritual covenant built on commitment, trust and respect between husband and wife.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5,7, 1 Corinthians 6:15-20

THE BLESSED HOPE

The Blessed Hope of the Church is the resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation (catching away to Heaven) together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Titus 2:13

THE FINAL JUDGEMENT

There will be a final judgement in which the dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whoever's name is not found written in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire which is the second death.

Matthew 25:46, Revelation 20:11-15
